Welcome to Oldham Town Centre Chaplaincy

…. Listening to and supporting those working in Oldham Town Centre

Oldham is a very diverse town and has seen its fair share of troubles and difficulties over the years. The town centre boasts two shopping centres (Spindles and Town Square), Tommyfield indoor market, outdoor market stalls and numerous big name shops and independant family-run businesses.

So we’re here to listen, understand and offer the hand of friendship and we do this via two teams:

  • The day-time business (shopping, banking, etc) is covered by a team of volunteer chaplains co-ordinated by Rev Ruth Wollaston
  • The night-time business is covered by the team of Street Angels co-ordinated by Donna Shaw

The Town Centre is a constantly changing environment and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has taken its toll on the businesses and on those employed by the businesses.  It has also impacted the work of our projects – the chaplaincy team are still out and about whenever restrictions make this safe to do; the Street Angels team have no night-time business to serve but are helping those in need with hot food on Saturday evenings and Wednesday afternoons.
